Four départements andThere are a total of 2046 communes in the four departements – Cote d’Or, Yonne, Nièvre and Saône-et-Loire – that make up the region of Burgundy. I have yet to visit the majority of them, but among those I have been to the favourites are already to many to mention.
Wine production is a big part of life in three of the four départements. The Côte d’Or is of course the best-known part, with its Chambertins, Musignys and Montrachets. Up in the northwestern corner is the Yonne with Chablis and the surrounding Auxerrois and Tonnerrois vinyards. In the south, bordering on the Beaujolais, is the Saône-et-Loire with the Mâconnais and the Côte chalonnaise wines.
Since wine is omnipresent in Burgundy you will find as much about wine in this section as you will find in the Wine section.
